Hidden Treasures

The Bible is much more than a book of religion.

Prayer series: Introduction

God created us for His glory and for His pleasure. He delights to commune with us and share His heart with us and He has done that by giving us His holy, inspired, infallible Word, the Bible. He has also given us His Holy Spirit to live in every true believer. Romans 8:9 "If any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His." He also delights in hearing from us. He invites us to share our hearts with Him in prayer.

Psalm 65:2 "O Thou that hearest prayer, unto Thee shall all flesh come."

Jeremiah 33:3 "Call unto me and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things which thou knowest not."

Psalm 51:17 "The sacrifices of God are a broken heart: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, Thou wilt not despise."

Matthew 7:7-11 "Ask, and it shall be given unto you; seek and ye shall find; knock and it shall be opened unto you. For every one that asketh, receiveth and he that seeketh findeth and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone, or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in Heaven give good thing to them that ask Him?"

Philippians 4:6-7 "Be careful (anxious) for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."

Prayer can be as short and simple as a cry for help or a thank you to God. As we grow in Christian maturity, we share the burdens of others in intercessory prayer. An example is given to us of intercessory prayer in Colossians 4:12. "Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, saluteth you, always labouring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God."

From time to time we will add further thoughts from God's Word on prayer.

What A Friend We Have In Jesus
Joseph Scriven

What a friend we have in Jesus; all our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry, everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry, everything to God in prayer.

Have we trials and temptation? Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged, Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness, Take it to the Lord in prayer.

Are we weak and heavy laden, Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Saviour, still our refuge. Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee? Take it to the Lord in prayer.
In His arms He'll take and shield thee, Thou wilt find a solace there.
