Hidden Treasures

The Bible is much more than a book of religion.

Prayer series #5: Our Father

Our Father who art in Heaven

Though God created one human race, one human family, ever since Adam and Eve disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden and fell from their perfect estate; there have been two families on earth: God's family and Satan's family. The key verse to the whole Bible is Genesis 3:15. God is speaking to Satan "I will put enmity between thee and the woman and between thy seed and her Seed. He shall bruise thy head and thou shalt bruise His heel"

In that one verse God summarizes human history. He is saying, "Satan, because you led the human race into sin and rebellion against Me, I am declaring war on you and those who follow you as their spiritual father. A virgin woman will one day bear My Son, Jesus. You will hate Him and My family and do much damage to them, but eventually I will destroy you and your family forever."

Ever since that fateful day there have been two and only two spiritual families on this earth: those who follow Satan as their spiritual father and those who have been born again into God's spiritual family. There has always been tension and even enmity between these two families. Satan's family has caused much pain and suffering to God's family, even to the point of killing Jesus, the Seed of the Woman.

However, God supernaturally raised His Son from the dead three days later and because of that, Jesus and those who belong to God's family through faith in Jesus are going to be victorious. Christ will eventually crush Satan's head. Satan and those who follow him will be cast into the eternal Lake of Fire. That is a summary of the Bible from Genesis through Revelation.

Read the story in Romans 5:12-19 of two key men: Adam and Jesus. Note that through only one man, Adam, the entire human race fell into sin and was cursed. Perhaps you are thinking, "That just isn't fair that I should be counted a sinner just because of one man's disobedience thousands of years ago." Alright, hold that argument. I'll agree with you that until you hear the full story, that sounds as though God is unfair. Now let's go a step further.

As one man, Adam, led the entire human race into sin and death, so one Man, Jesus, through His death and resurrection, leads all those who trust Him into eternal life. That is the simple, wonderful explanation of God's grace in this Romans 5 passage.

You see, the question is not how good or how deserving are you to go to Heaven. None of us are. We are all cursed sons and daughters of Adam. In our natural state we would all follow Satan and spend eternity with him in the Lake of Fire.

But God, in His love, has intervened. He has provided salvation to anyone who will trust His Son, Jesus, who died for our sins.

The question is not, are you a Catholic or a Protestant? Are you a Jew or a Muslim? Are you a religious person or an irreligious person? The ultimate question is are you still in Adam's cursed family, or are you in God's blessed family through faith in the sacrifice of Jesus for your sins? John 1:12 says, "As many as received Him,(Jesus) to them gave He the power to become the Sons of God, even to them who believe on His name." Jesus said to those religionists who rejected Him, "Ye are of your father, the devil." John 8:44

If you have never put your trust in Jesus, your spiritual father is still Satan.
If you have put your trust in Christ, God is your spiritual Father.

If God is your Heavenly Father, Ephesians 2:18 teaches you have access to Him in prayer. You and I can gratefully approach the Father in prayer through our relationship with His Son, Jesus. John 14:6 Hebrews 4:14-16
